CEREC cantilever bridge

CREATIVE IDEA. CEREC users are constantly pushing back the limits of the hardware and software. In so doing they display an acute awareness of CEREC’s potential capabilities in challenging clinical applications.

A patient from Jakarta/Indonesia visited her dentist with defective restorations of teeth 12-11 and 21-22. She requested a more aesthetic alternative to the existing resinveneered bridgework. In the course of an X-ray examination her dentist, Dr. Andri Suwardi, established that  tooth 12 was a deciduous tooth. He removed the defective bridge, extracted the deciduous tooth and replaced it with an implant.

Dr. Suwardi came up with a very interesting solution during the implant healing phase – namely a CEREC-produced cantilever bridge across tooth 12 and attached to tooth 11. As CEREC does not offer a dedicated software solution for this task Dr. Suwardi extended the preparation margin and placed it virtually around the implant. He then adapted the proposal generated by the CEREC software to the specific clinical situation. The restoration was milled out of a VITA all-ceramic block.

Following this, Dr. Suwardi created CEREC restorations for teeth 21, 22 and 43. The patient was delighted with the aesthetic outcome – and with the fact that the entire treatment procedure was completed in just two visits.
